The gate leaf width is calculated by subtracting hinge and latch clearance from the opening width. For double gates, the total opening is divided evenly between two leaves.
How Does the Gate Calculator Work?
The calculator uses the following formulas:
Single Gate: Gate Leaf Width = Opening Width − Hinge/Latch Clearance
Double Gate: Gate Leaf Width = (Opening Width − Hinge/Latch Clearance) ÷ 2
Post Center-to-Center: Gate Leaf Width + Post Width
Post Holes Needed: Number of Gate Leaves + 1 (for single) or + 2 (for double)
