๐Ÿ“Š How PAYE Tax is Calculated in Ghana

PAYE (Pay As You Earn) is the tax deducted monthly from employees' salaries by their employers and paid directly to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA). The calculation follows these steps:

Step 1: Determine annual taxable income = (Monthly salary ร— 12) - SSNIT contributions - other reliefs
Step 2: Apply progressive tax brackets to annual income
Step 3: Calculate monthly tax = Annual tax รท 12
Step 4: Net monthly salary = Gross monthly salary - SSNIT - Monthly Tax

Example Calculation (Monthly Salary: GHS 5,000):
โ€ข Annual Gross: GHS 60,000
โ€ข SSNIT (5.5%): GHS 3,300 per year
โ€ข Taxable Income: GHS 56,700
โ€ข Tax Calculation: GHS 6,872 + 25% ร— (GHS 56,700 - GHS 46,760) = GHS 6,872 + GHS 2,485 = GHS 9,357 annual tax
โ€ข Monthly Tax: GHS 780
โ€ข Net Monthly Salary: GHS 5,000 - GHS 275 (SSNIT) - GHS 780 = GHS 3,945

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) provides pension, invalidity, and survivor benefits. Contribution rates:
